Michael Payne is an award-winning designer at MulvannyG2 Architecture. He is committed to inquiry and study in order to provide fresh insight and uncommon solutions to design challenges. He appreciates the value of good architecture and design and its impact on our society and the built environment. From conceptual design to construction management, he is dedicated to understanding his client’s needs and pursues design solutions with a passion. He is currently developing a team dedicated to the design of boutique retail store environments with an emphasis on incorporating strategic brand positioning.
Michael has more than 14 years of architectural experience, the last three in retail design. His versatile background has allowed hi m to apply his design skills to a variety of project types. His designs include everything from jewelry, graphics, signage, and wayfinding to theaters, storefront, multifamily housing, and retail stores.
Michael and his team won an A.R.E. Design Award Grand Prize for the design of the flagship store for HANNspree, a Taiwanese manufacturer of LCD TVs, in San Francisco. Other notable projects include HANNspree - Beverly Hills, Calif.; the sales showroom, lobbies, and amenity spaces for Bellevue Towers, a high-rise condo in Bellevue, Wash.; and Made in Oregon retail outlet in Portland, Ore. He recently completed the renovation, design, and launch of a historic shopping center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is providing support for various teams within the firm.
Michael serves on A.R.E.'s Sustainability Council. He has a bachelor of architecture from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. He resides in Portland, Ore., and enjoys road bicycling, training in martial arts, and collecting miniature replica buildings.
